Letter to PM Carney Regarding Children in Gaza
On January 28th, 2026, UNJPPI wrote a letter to Prime Minister Carney with the subject “Calling for Strong Action to Actually Protect Palestinian Children in Gaza”
Excerpt:
…Today we write on an urgent matter – what is happening to Palestinian children under the unlawful Israeli military occupation.
Canada’s played an instrumental role in the drafting and promoting of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
And the January 25, 2021 Government response to Parliament petition e-2667 stated that Canadian officials closely monitor the status of children’s rights in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza; that children’s rights are a top concern of our foreign policy; and that Canada is a strong advocate for the end of all human rights violations against children, particularly in situations of humanitarian emergencies and armed conflict.
That being so, your government knows that the Children in Gaza are in dire danger. The exact number of children killed in Gaza is unknown because many are still under the rubble. And of those still alive, many are starving, and dying of injuries and other illnesses that could be treated if Israel would allow food and medicine in …
… As the occupying power, Israel is responsible for the welfare of the Palestinians living in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Gaza. It has failed miserably in this obligation.
In response, Canada needs to take much stronger action. This must start with:
1. Cancelling the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement; and
2. Completely stopping the delivery of any armaments or armament components from Canada to Israel, whether directly or indirectly through other countries. To make clear that your government will stop those armament deliveries, we urge you to immediately state that your government supports Parliament enacting Bill 233, the No More Loopholes Act.
Please respond to this communication and advise what strong action your government will take to help ensure Palestinian children are protected. Words alone are clearly not enough!”
